William May has spent 34 years as the head doorman at the Fairmont Hotel, and with the hotel closed due to coronavirus, his life has changed drastucaly. He has always been a man with his heart, mind and eyes open to possibilities, so as each presented itself when he least expexted it, he dove right in.
William is, at his core, a cheerful man, a learner and a thinker. He is a UC Berkeley graduate, worked as a paralegal in both immigration and housing law, is an avid music lover, and reads extensively, so despite his hotel work having come to a halt of indeterminate length and his enchanting social life having been curtailed, he has rather gleefully filled his days with abilities he never knew he had.
He knows how to keep himself (as well as his friends and family) afloat even in waters as choppy as they are today. Best to listen to William talk about his isolation journey in his own voice complete with his bursts of rich laughter at himself and the bonus of learning what it takes to survive isolation.
Spoiler alert and the trick to it all: he is comfortable with who he is and just fine being his own company. You can see William’s NewClevelandradio youtube episode for the added joy of, well, of just seeing him.
