Donna Russo is the lead actress and dancer of Donna On the Go, a web-series about a young woman with two non-related disabilities that cause some challenges, some difficulties and, yes, some laughter.
With a childhood diagnosis of two conditions that may have stopped most people from achieving goals that were dearly held dreams, Donna forged ahead on the path that was meant to be. She is not only an actress with a long history of performance; she is also a dancer with a BA in dance.
It is one thing not to be stopped by disability, it is quite another to bring the issues and understanding of what seem to be insurmountable moments to the non-disability public. The answer to the oft-heard question, “How can you laugh at a time like this” is, simply enough, “You can.”
Donna has brought some cringeworthy moments to the screen and cushions them in the healing of laughter. Donna is laughing at the predicaments that sometimes ensnare us – never at the victim of the assault, and she invites us all to join her in a good giggle. Other of her recorded moments you would have to be a monster to laugh, and yet other times are so touching that faith in humankind, should you ever doubt its existence, is restored.
To listen to Donna talk about her life and work is an inspiring education we can all use. She is so appreciative of everyone in her sphere, and to listen to her applaud Peggy Lane, who has spent countless hours as creator and Executive Producerof of Donna on the Go is a lesson in giving credit where credit is due.
Looking at her YouTube episode gives a chance to see the spirit and strength that defines Donna Russo. It is no wonder that Donna On the Go has been submitted for 4 Emmy nominations as Donna herself is a lovely, compassionate, contemplative, loving and candid woman with a lot to teach. She is an emotionally generous woman who likes to see other people shine.
Donna, open-hearted and open-minded as she is, now realizes she has letters she wants to write and has already ordered beautiful note-cards to hold her thoughts. I think if you listen to what she realizes about writing letters as the conversation unfolds, you, too, may want to order gorgeous stationery.
