Ruthie Darling. And, that is the word that would describe her best. Her mother, in countless moments of extreme affection and appreciation for her daughter, always called her Ruthie, darling.
After years as a grade school teacher, Ruthie turned to writing children’s books (yes, for all ages). She knew herself best as Ruthie Darling, so just took that name as her real one. You most likely know Wendy Darling as Peter Pan’s friend. “It was good enough for Peter Pan’s friend Wendy,” she says, “so why not for me?” Not hard to see why everyone accepted that name as the woman who wrote books that empower children to be their best.
The Hole Story charming and then some while subtly preparing children for the mystery of learning math, Miranda the Panda quite and adventure with a valuable lesson, and Moonbeam, a happy lesson in self acceptance just three of Ruthie’s unique stories with generous helpings of verse and illustrations that are heart-warming. Oh, by the way, she is often known as Ruthie Darling, princess of rhymes.
As all lives do, hers had its challenges but despite her diagnosis of a fascinating condition so rare that most people have never heard of it, she cheerfully triumphed.
Cheerful is what seems to rule Ruthie’s life; her goal as she states often is to make people happy. I must say that listening to her is delightful, but seeing the look on her face while she talks about simply wanting to make people happy can make you happy.
Do come to get to know Ruthie Darling; she may well open the door to some new worlds and some fabulous new gift giving ideas for the children in your life. Good news about the love letter she will consider writing is either to her grandmother or an ex boyfriend. I hope she does them both!
