RIP Steve Jobs

The Apple site has a page called “Remembering Steve Jobs” that asks us to share thoughts, memories and condolences. Good enough since as I logged on earlier today my heart lurched at the news of his death, and I needed to send a letter to someone just to express my gloom at his passing. I was surprised by the loss I felt for this complicated man whom I had never met but whose life changed mine.

To Steve Jobs, the Apple core and source of endless originality, I add my thanks for decades of personal joy through what he brought to the world. I am uplifted by the very clean glassy-blue feel of an Apple Store – yes, progress in progress. His gift was a world of new possibilities, and a clear message that human creativity has no end.

Saddened as I am that this light has been dimmed, I know I am better off for the life he led, and how grateful I am for his massive talents and drive. The glow of every Apple device screen that I always took as a natural part of my universe has, to my surprise, become the gentle echo of his time on earth.

My thoughts are with his family and friends.

With love and grief in the air,

Janet
