In a world too often plagued by fear, mistrust, and a general sense of disgust for American politics, there is a bright light of hope shining through a rather bright light herself. When Pamela Ward suggested to me not long ago that I write a love letter to U.S. Representative for New York’s 14thcongressional district Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, I realized that Pam must have one in her own heart and suggested she do it herself.
She is an electrician by profession (on land and at sea), a hard-working, highly educated (degree in Marine Biology), U.S. Navy vet, cheerful, accomplished, enthusiastic, unpretentious and practical woman who is aware of our problems, but instead of withering under the strain of those issues, her belief in American democracy is a beautiful thing and strong enough to keep her passionately optimistic.
