Rescuing old, stray, abandoned and sometimes abused dogs is what Sherri Franklin does. She is on duty every day finding them loving homes, saving them from euthanasia, providing the most loving and tender hospice care to minimize their suffering. And, if she cannot find an adequate and compassionate foster home quickly, well, she takes them into her home to see them to the end of their days.
And, this is actually how it started one dog at a time in her house until she realized the number of aging dogs in need. She knew just what to do. And did it. She is the founder and CEO of Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, an organization dedicated solely to saving older dogs, finding them homes and spreading the word of what valuable loving pets they are.
Since its beginning in 2007, Muttville has rescued over 10,000 senior dogs with new dogs coming in every day from all around the United States. Muttville was a pioneer in cage-free shelters and a flourishing hospice program. Sherri is what you would definitely call a hands-on CEO, with her own home filled with senior hospice dogs in need of care.
Her team of devoted professionals – veterinarians, groomers, trainers, office managers, adoption case workers, and more is stunning. The joy of saving a life is alive and well at Muttville. And, what adopting an elderly dog does for children’s sense of compassion is incomparable.
Listen to Sherri talk about Muttville and the miracles it unleashes. Listen to her talk about the old man and the Muttville stray, strangers to each other and each depressed, isolated, lonely, and just waiting passively for life to come to an end. Enter Muttville who paired these two lost souls. You may know by now that I tend to be a spoiler, but I cannot do it here. You have to hear from Sherri what happened when the dog moved in with the man.
The Muttville website is filled with possibilities for adoption, success stories, personal stories of adopters and their new family members and how life is changed with senior pet adoption.
By the way, I know this because I am one of the people whose life has been actually more than brightened by my incomparable pooch the 14 year-old Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix whose name is Dr. Feldman. Thank you, Sherri and all your team.
