Shulamit Sofia MSW is getting older. Well, we all are, and at exactly the same rate. But she has a head start on some of you and has learned a thing or two to pass on about how to live life best for the rest of the road.
Shulamit gives us a blessedly cheerful picture of life filled with gifts of getting older and letting go of aging that is driven by the need to look young and satisfy other people’s needs in order to feel worthwhile. And, she does it with such bubbling enthusiasm it is irresistible.
For years she gave countless teddy bears to traumatized children around the world. Easing the lives of children defined her very purpose for years. She knows there are more traumatized children than ever before, but the pandemic put a stop to that with the end of shipments. What to do when you are forced to shift your objective and maybe your very worth?
See the light in her eyes with what she says about looking at yourself in a different way as we age. How does the cosmetics industry play into making women, and now men as well, feel inadequate for simply becoming old?
What makes an older woman (men, too for that matter) physically attractive ? What happens to a physical feature you used to dislike when you saw it in the eyes of societal expectations?
Her advice is so good and probably what you have felt all along. But one of her main points is to get your attention off yourself. As you hear so often today in a burst of perfect teen wisdom, “Get over yourself!”
Shulamit Sofia’s list goes on and is worth following. You will most likely recognize all of it. The trick now is to do it. Her new book From Oy to Joy – a soul journey to making the best of your life for the rest of your life, may help you down a new path.
Her love letter to herself that we talked about after this taping, will be a winner and not only a gift to herself but to her children and grandchildren when they find them maybe generations later.
