You may know Joey Travolta as a singer, actor and director, but being a teacher of special needs children was where his passion was. A kinder man you would not find, but he credits his own father with having given the gift of kindness to his children. This is a gift that Joey took to heart and let it light his own path from the time he was a teen and even in high school the protector of special needs kids.
For the last many years Joey runs his many-faceted summer camp with locations across the country for special needs students who are on the autism spectrum. It is a complicated process training the adults to run the camp, creating programs, and teaching his students, 50 a session, how to make movies. Each group responsible for making one film a session. From storyline and script, to finish of full movie it is inclusion in the hands of the campers. Red carpet event included? Of course.
So many questions. Listen to Joey talk about his life and his work. How did he meet his wife also from a show business background? How many performers from his home town in New Jersey? How does he feel about his transition from performing to running the film camps?
Love letter? His experience in writing letters to his mother is priceless and probably unusual, but he remained undaunted. What he says about found family letters is not really surprising but so worth hearing. His most recent love letter already written will be an incomparable gift some day to someone special. Who is that? Best to listen to Joey and hear it in his own voice. It is, as always with Joey, the voice of kindness and compassion.
